Quotes are from SpokesmanReview Eye on Boise:

“Idaho Gov. Butch Otter on Tuesday named longtime Boise accountant P. LaVern Gentry to conduct an independent review of the Idaho Tax Commission’s actions, in light of a whistleblower’s report charging the commission with cutting secret deals to excuse large multistate corporations from paying Idaho taxes.

Rep. Dennis Lake, R-Blackfoot and chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, said Gentry’s work will provide the Legislature with information it needs to fulfill its oversight responsibilities.

‘Our ability to accomplish the functions of government depends on the trust we are able to maintain with the people,’ Lake said. ‘This is a step in the right direction, and we stand ready to follow up on whatever recommendations result from Mr. Gentry’s review.’”

Right, Mr. Lake. Like you would heed anyone’s suggestions. You had a committee last summer look at the tax exemptions in existence and chucked that report in your drawer at the beginning of the last legislative session.
