Nielsen rates high with Tata
June 27, 2008
Quotes from Lou Dobbs Tonight:
Nielsen, the TV rating company is firing employees in its Oldsmar, Florida headquarters. They are choosing to replace American workers with the behemoth outsourcing contracter Tata who acquires a vast number of H-1B visas.
“The H-1B’s are now issued on a three-year basis that can be extended to six years. No government agency, no government agency actually monitors these workers to make certain they leave the United States when their visas expire. And by the way, most of those visas are going to low-skill workers, not to high-skill workers, and seven out of the top 20 companies using them are Indian companies based in the United States for the purpose of outsourcing work just like what you’re watching happen [in Oldsmar].”
Nielsen is not an American company, granted, but Oldsmar, an American city as I figure, gave that company a nice incentive to convince them to plant their headquarters there. That incentive included payback to Nielsen for hiring employees. A good incentive plan, most would agree. Too bad Nielsen found a way to take advantage of the generous offer and hire people that may never even set foot in the United States let alone pay taxes to or buy groceries in Oldsmar.
